Security Council resolution on Palestinian state defeated
The United Nations Security Council on Tuesday failed to adopt a Jordan-backed draft resolution calling for the establishment of a Palestinian state. Eight countries, including Russia, France and China, voted in favor, the U.S. and Australia were opposed and the U.K. and four other members abstained. The resolution needed nine votes to pass. The Palestinian leadership may seek recognition from the International Criminal Court instead.
