SEVEN SISTERS MARKET:

The Shape of Things To Come

http://pamisherwood.files.wordpress.com/2008/07/08_0079wcc.jpg

How much is worth Grainger's word? That is the question Seven Sisters market traders and the Pueblito Paisa Market are asking themselves on the wake of the appeal hearing next May.

Last year Grainger acquired the U shape land at the back of the Seven Sisters Market used as a car park and now the developer is flexing their muscles getting ready for whatever is the outcome of the appeal by harassing openly a trader through their car park managing agent.

The Pueblito Paisa Traders offer their customers a car wash and car servicing option as part of their marketing strategy and when Grainger bought the car park land the Pueblito Paisa negotiated on behalf of one of its members the renting of a section of the car parking space for customers to park their cars when they wanted them to be serviced.

Now Grainger want to relinquish their original agreement by falsely accusing the trader to be on breach of contract and asking him to vacate the premises at short notice just before breaking up for the Easter holiday, thus preventing him to get legal advice.

At the same time the Pueblito Paisa Traders find it difficult to accept a heavy handed visit by a Haringey Council Inspector to the car park last week as a mere coincidence.

As things stand at the moment, the Pueblito Paisa Ltd finds it hard to believe Grainger's promises to look after the interests of the market traders and are beginning to consider this last action as a sample of the treatment they are going to receive in the event that they also have Grainger as a Landlord.

BORIS JOHNSON TALKING TO 2,000 IBERO-AMERICANS IN JANUARY 2009

SINCE ITS BEGINNINGS BRITAIN HAD A STRONG IBERIAN INFLUENCE. 80% OF THE BRITISH AND IRISH PEOPLE ARE GENETICALLY ORIGINATED FROM IMMIGRANTS THAT ARRIVED IN THE LAST 15,000 YEARS FROM SPAIN. LONDON WAS BUILT BY HISPANIC EMPERORS LIKE TRAJAN OR HADRIAN. IN ITS FIRST 500 YEARS LONDON'S LANGUAGE WAS LATIN (TODAY 75% OF ALL THE PEOPLE THAT SPEAK A LATIN LANGUAGE ARE IBERO-AMERICANS). THE CENTRE OF BRITAIN'S ROAD SYSTEM IS CHARING CROSS (A MONUMENT OF LOVE FOR ELEONORA DE CASTILLA AND THE IBERIAN PEOPLES). ENGLAND HAD HALF A DOZEN OF IBERIAN KINGS AND QUEENS AND THE FOUNDER OF THE CONSERVATIVE PARTY WAS BENJAMIN DISRAELI (A SPANISH-PORTUGUESE JEW). ALMOST ALL THE FOUNDERS OF THE HISPANIC SOUTH AMERICAN NATIONS LIVED IN LONDON.

THE IBERO-AMERICAN AND SPANISH-PORTUGUESE SPEAKERS ALLIANCE IS ORGANISING HOSTINGS AND PRESENTATIONS IN ALL LONDON, IF ANY CANDIDATE OR PARTY IS INTERESTED PLEASE WRIGHT TO US AND WE WILL TRY TO FIND YOU A PLACE SO YOU CAN TALK TO OUR COMMUNITY.

Venezuelan Film Festival

Zamora, land and free men

zamora pelicula
This is the latest film by Román Chalbaud, and it explores the life of Ezequiel Zamora, one of the protagonists of the most violent period in the history of Venezuela.

The Venezuela in which Zamora lived and died was a country decimated by the War of Independence, dismembered into enormous fiefdoms in the hands of the large landowners who emerged from the war with their pockets bulging, betraying, along the way, the people and the leaders who gave their lives to liberate the country from Spanish oppression.
In Zamora the leading roles are played by Alexander Solórzano, Daniela Alvarado, Dilia Waikkarán, Eric Ekvall, Luigi Sciamana, Julio César Mármol, Alberto Galíndez, Antonio Cuevas, Asdrúbal Meléndez, Dimas González, Eduardo Gadea Pérez, Antonio Delli, Anastasia Mazzone and Ramón Hinojosa. The script is by the veteran Venezuelan writer Luis Britto García. The film is a La Fundación Villa del Cine production.

Commando X
comando x
The film relates the exploits of Manuel, a character who owes a lot to the Spanish picaresque tradition. Poor, without a penny to his name, Manuel pretends to be the exact opposite in order to win the heart of Lucía, his boss' stunning-looking daughter.

However, things get complicated for Manuel when he gets involved with a radical group of commandos who want to overthrow the President. Manuel suddenly finds himself having to choose between saving his love or saving the city from terror.
This political comedy is directed by José Luis Varela, with the script by Henry
Herrera.

Postcards from Leningrad

postales de leningrado
For the young narrator of Postcards from Leningrad, being born into a socialist uprising in 1960s Venezuela wasn't easy. She and her cousin Teo have learned how to live a clandestine life, making an ongoing game out of survival, with everything from code names and creative disguises to making themselves invisible and devising fantastic escape plans. A visual collage with playful animation and nostalgic footage of revolutionary youth, the film injects both humour and pathos into a story where wild fantasies, foggy memories, madness, white lies, and grief all mix seamlessly in a child's reality. Nominated by Venezuela for the 2008 Oscars and for Spain's 2008 Goyas.

Blocks

bloques pelicula
The film is directed jointly by Alfredo Hueck and Carlos Caridad, each of whom covers stories from their own apartment block, turning them into half a film. The result is a cinematographic diptych, made up of two half-length films.
Blocks is really two films in one, with some points, themes and dramas in common. The first story, from the first block, called "The final faliure", is directed by Alfredo Hueck and written by Julio Balam. It tells a loves story with sombre overtones of Bukovsky.
The other, second block, (*Getting across the barrier"), written by Marcel González Ávila and directed by Caridad, is a story of family disintegration, triggered by an act of corruption.

Dog Hearts

perros corazones
Set in a place undefined in terms of time and location. The story starts one night when Eva is arguing with her only son, who, a few minutes later, turns up dead in a nearby park. She sees the boy's best friend leaving the scene, and accuses him of the crime, fuelling a lethal hatred. After a painful period of mourning, Tomás appears in her life, because they have decided to mate their respective dogs. In each visit, while these two antagonistic and solitary characters sit on the sofa waiting for what must happen between the two animals, love starts to spring up between them.

Don't believe everything you read on the Web – especially on Thursday 1'st April. We round up the best online April Fools jokes, from Google's Topeka name swap to a life-size helicopter peripheral for the Nintendo Wii.

When it comes to April Fools jokes, nerds just do it better than everyone else.

One year, it was Google rolling out a feature in Gmail that could turn back the date on a handful of sent messages. Another, it was a Kodak camera that clips onto your glasses. And this year, some of the most popular sites on the Web have one-upped themselves with April Fools pranks. Check out some of our favorites.

Google to Topeka

Topeka, Kansas isn't the only one that can change its name on a whim. Or with a sense of humor. After the Kansas capital switched its title to Google for the entire month of March, Google honored the city by switching its own moniker to Topeka for April Fools. Or, if you believe its blog entry, forever. That means Google News is now Topeka News, Google Maps is now Topeka Maps, and if you perform a search on a subject, you "Topeka" it.

ThinkGeek iCade iPad Arcade Cabinet

Much like Gmail's infamous Gmail time warp feature, ThinkGeek's iCade iPad arcade cabinet is probably one April Fool's day prank you'll wish was real. The $150 spoof accessory allows you to drop your iPad into a miniature arcade with real buttons and a joystick to play titles like Donkey Kong, Dig Dug and Qbert. ThinkGeek describes it as a "beautifully retro styled, handcrafted wooden tabletop arcade cabinet and MAME emulator for your otherwise useless iPad." If it's anything like the tauntaun sleeping bag from April Fools day in years past, there's even some possibility it could end up as a real product – if Apple ever drops its ban on emulator apps.

Plasti-Copter Wii Helicopter for Copter Crisis

This one wasn't visible to the open Web, but we have to give credit to Digital Leisure for brightening our packed, humorless inboxes with it. In a faux press release, Digital Leisure claims it will release a full-size "Plasti-Copter" accessory to go with Copter Crisis on Wii. "Once comfortably seated and Copter Crisis started, the player will instantly feel they're part of the action as they guide the on-screen copter with their remote," the press release reads. But the real seller is in the picture.

YouTube TEXTp

Fans of ASCII art will love YouTube's new TEXTp – a play on 720p and 1080p – that purports to reduce bandwidth as much as possible by substituting colored text for pixels, saving YouTube "$1 a second in bandwidth costs." The really amazing part: They actually implemented it, and it looks phenomenal. You can append &textp=fool to most videos to try it out.

CollegeHumor

In a slightly more political twist, CollegeHumor brings us this Orwellian landing page warning that your IP address has been logged by the United States Department of Information. Why? CollegeHumor is under investigation for "harboring un-American sentiment and will remain offline until an official review can be conducted." Even more sadistic: The crew paraded around NYC pretending In-N-Out Burger would be arriving there for the summer of 2010. Absolutely cruel.

Wikipedia

If you don't doubt the credibility of Wikipedia already, the site's clever April Fools front page may change your mind. Although it might pass for the same page you always see on login, links to articles on wife selling, humpbacked elves and people being sent back in time to 1999 may warrant a double take. Amazingly enough, though they're all intentionally misleading, there's a kernel of truth in every one that you can find out more about by clicking through to the actual articles.

Justin Bieber's Funny or Die Takeover

Those who don't keep up on the latest teen sensation of the month might be at a loss on Justin Bieber, so a little background: After a sketch on Funny or Die lampooned the 16-year-old singer's single "Baby," the comedy site today claims he has bought it and converted it to Bieber or Die, where anything that isn't Bieber dies. The update includes a landslide of horrendous videos from Bieber himself, a Bieber-themed design makeover, and a pop-up images of the cherub-faced Canuck plastering over everything.

Starbucks Plena and Micra Sizes

If you think Starbucks has no sense of humor about its pretentious and confusing drink sizes, think again. A post on the company's blog post for April Fools extols the virtues of its new "Plenta" and "Micra" drink sizes – which contain 128 and two ounces, respectively. Photoshopped images of a popcorn-bucket-sized coffees really round this one out.
