Enhancing U.S. Preventive Action

Overstretched by wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, the United States must improve its ability to manage future crises and avoid new military commitments, says a new Council Special Report by Paul Stares and Micah Zenko. Sponsored by CFR's Center for Preventive Action, Enhancing U.S. Preventive Action provides policymakers with an actionable roadmap to make U.S. prevention architecture more effective at identifying, averting, and responding to potential crises abroad.

The United States in the New Asia

A new Council Special Report by Evan Feigenbaum and Robert Manning warns that the United States risks marginalization in Asia unless it takes a more active role in regional organizations. The United States in the New Asia, published by CFR's International Institutions and Global Governance program, recommends that the United States work more closely with China, Japan, South Korea, and Russia on vital economic and transnational issues and advocates increased bilateral engagement in Southeast Asia, especially with Indonesia and Vietnam.
