November 22th, 2011 Super Committee Fails, But We Push On! Dear Friend, "America is broke," we hear from the naysayers. We know that the United States is rich in ideas, generous in spirit, and willing to offer international assistance, especially when the world economy is in a slump. The news this week is full of recriminations about the so-called Super Committee. The international issues you care about are rarely resolved in a single day. The role of the United States in the world will not be sealed by the failure of a temporary Congressional committee. You and our other supporters have done great work this year in voicing support for the "International Affairs" portion of the overall federal budget. Please consider making a donation to support our work in 2012. We have a matching gift campaign for the end of the year. We all understand that, no matter how the overall federal budget issues are resolved, the United States still must engage effectively with the world on many fronts. To do otherwise would be foolhardy. As we gather together this week, reflect and give thanks, let us remember people in Syria and Yemen who face violence without rule of law, people in Libya and South Sudan who are building nations, and people in Egypt and the Democratic Republic of Congo who are scheduled to have elections this month after mighty struggles. It is as important as ever that the United States remain engaged with the world in order to support the efforts of these people and so many others. We are pleased to serve as your "eyes and ears" in Washington, remaining watchful to the international issues that you care about, and pushing toward for a better tomorrow. Please consider making a donation to support our work in 2012. We have a matching gift campaign for the end of the year. If you donate between today and December 31, your donation will be matched by the 2011 Global Leadership Matching Gift Fund. This fund is supported by a group of some of our most dedicated donors. The fund will match your gifts dollar-for-dollar up to $87,000. That means if you make a donation of $25 it becomes a gift of $50, give $50 and it becomes $100 – now is the chance to increase the return on your investment for global solutions. Together we can make a better and safer world for us and future generations. Click here to double your impact and make a tax deductible end of the year donation now. Best wishes for Thanksgiving, Robert Enholm Executive Vice President Citizens for Global Solutions 418 7th St SE Washington,DC 20003-2707 |
