UN: Iraq violence in 2014 resulted in most deaths in years
At least 12,282 civilians were killed in Iraq in 2014, with most of the deaths occurring after June, said the United Nations on Thursday. 2014 was the deadliest period since the sectarian violence of 2006-07. "Yet again, the Iraqi ordinary citizen continues to suffer from violence and terrorism. ... This is a very sad state of affairs," said Nickolay Mladenov, head of the UN political mission in Iraq.
