Civil Society - UN Dialogue on Post-2015 Processes held with High-Level Panel on the Post-2015 Development Agenda

On 24 September, a dialogue was held between civil society, UN officials and members of the Secretary-General\'s High-level Panel of Eminent Persons on the Post-2015 Development Agenda. With more than 200 civil society participants in attendance, and the event featured lively discussion between the UN panelists, members of the High-level Panel, and interventions from the audience as well as those engaging in the dialogue online.

New NGLS e-Roundup "Rio+20: A new direction for a more sustainable future?"

Inline The UN Conference on Sustainable Development ("Rio+20"), the largest UN conference ever, opened on 20 June 2012, gathering 191 UN Member States and observers, including 100 Heads of State and Government, about 10,000 civil society representatives, and more than 30,000 other participants (UN officials, parliamentarians, mayors, chief executive officers, media representatives, etc). This NGLS eRoundup aims to provide an overview of the main happenings at and around the Rio+20 Conference; it also looks forward, exploring how the outcomes of Rio can be expanded upon to bring the urgently needed change to make this world more sustainabl! e, and to prepare for an inclusive post-2015 development framework.

First ever High-level Meeting on the Rule of Law

InlineOn 24 September, the UN General Assembly held its first ever High-level Meeting (HLM) on the Rule of Law, where world leaders urged States to recommit to the rule of law as a fundamental factor in preventing war. The meeting, which brought together Member States and civil society represented at the highest level, also sought to highlight the essential link between the rule of law at the national and international levels and economic growth, sustainable development and the eradication of poverty and hunger.

UN-DESA launches a new Sustainable Development Knowledge Platform

Inline In the follow-up to Rio+20, a new website, the Sustainable Development Knowledge Platform (SDKP), has been launched by the Division for Sustainable Development of the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UN-DESA). Ensuring continuity with the former Rio+20 website, which is no longer being updated, this platform gathers all available information regarding the past nineteen years of normative and analytical work of the Commission on Sustainable Development (CSD), the intergovernmental processes on sustainable development governance as well as the Rio+20 preparatory process and follow-up.

Call for inputs for a report on the participation of people living in poverty

 
The UN Special Rapporteur on extreme poverty and human rights, Magdalena Sepúlveda Carmona, is collecting inputs for a report on the human rights approach to participation of persons living in poverty in decisions that affect their lives, to be submitted at the 23rd session of the United Nations Human Rights Council in June 2013. The Special Rapporteur would particularly welcome submissions from women\'s organizations that have worked with women living in poverty to promote, support and enable their participation in the design and implementation of monitoring of national/local policy or development interventions.

Domestic workers will see their basic labour rights protected one year from now

Inline With the ratification of ILO Convention 189 on "Decent Work for Domestic Workers" by the Philippines, approximately 100 million domestic workers across the globe will see their basic labour rights extended and protected one year from now - when the Convention enters into force.
