[RED DEMOCRATICA] Defend Migrants on the U.S.-Mexico Border

Latin America Working Group
Promote Justice for Mexico and the Borderlands

Dear Supporter,

Since 2010, at least 28 people have been killed in confrontations with Border Patrol agents.  At least three people have died from such encounters in the first two months of 2014 alone.

There is virtually no transparency into the status or results of investigations into these deaths or how agents involved are held accountable.  More lives may be lost unless we push harder to limit deadly use of force and ensure justice for those who have lost loved ones to confrontations with Border Patrol agents. This is only one of the many issues the Mexico and Borderlands Team is up against in the next several months and we need your help to create meaningful change.

Join our Monthly Giving Program and help us reach our goal of 15 new Defensores—monthly donors who help provide dependable support we need consistently throughout the year— by March 21st!

LAWG’s latest report, A Perilous Journey, documents horrifying abuses perpetrated against migrants in transit through Mexico. Extortion and kidnapping sometimes resulting in death are common threats along the migrant train –La Bestia— route. Brave migrant rights defenders receive targeted threats including physical attacks and deaths threats for their humanitarian work at migrant shelters and documenting abuses by organized crime and corrupt government officials.

Will you help us bring a group of migrant rights defenders to Washington, D.C. this spring? These valiant defenders witness firsthand what migrants have been through when arriving at shelters.  Others must defend migrants when organized crime brazenly enters migrant shelters to threaten or even kidnap migrants.  Their stories and powerful testimonies would go a long way in convincing the U.S. to change failed policies which impact the lives of migrants.

Sign up to be a monthly recurring donor or give a one-time gift of $15, $30, or $50 before March 21st! Will you be a highly committed LAWG donor who helps sustain our work every month of the year?

Even a donation of $5 a month helps a great deal. Join us by taking a stand for human rights in Mexico and the U.S./Mexico Border by making your contribution today.

In solidarity,
The LAWG Mexico and U.S.-Mexico Border Team

P.S. Give $100 or more today or $10 or more as a monthly donor and receive a LAWG T-shirt!
