Trenton , NJ – Los avances que se están realizando en la investigación cognitiva acerca del Síndrome de Down resultan más perceptibles, por lo que la Primera Dama Mary Pat Christie dispuso que la residencial oficial del Gobernador- Drumthwacket -, será iluminada de azul la noche del viernes, 21 de marzo, como una forma de apoyar la iniciativa "National Light The Way" .
"Estoy muy contenta de participar una vez más en el esfuerzo de la iniciativa "National Light", dijo la señora Christie. "La investigación que realizan las organizaciones relacionadas con el Síndrome, como "Research Down Syndrome" (RDS) son responsables de la calidad en la mejora de vida para miles de personas con síndrome de Down y sus familias aquí en New Jersey y en todo el país. Igualmente es importante estos avances que permiten la capacitación de las personas con problemas de discapacidad intelectual para que puedan vivir más independientes y en forma satisfactoria", agregó la Primera Dama.
La iluminación de azul se observa cada año en el Día Mundial del Síndrome de Down cada 21 de marzo. Esta fecha es significativa porque el síndrome de Down se produce por la presencia de tres copias del cromosoma 21. El síndrome de Down es el trastorno cromosómico más común que afecta a más de 400,000 personas en los Estados Unidos. Fuentes de salud señalan que este síndrome se presenta en aproximadamente uno de cada 700 nacimientos.
Las investigaciones del síndrome de Down es un área en rápido avance de las investigaciones que representa una gran promesa para mejorar la memoria, el aprendizaje y la comunicación para las personas de todas las edades con síndrome de Down. El objetivo del programa (National Light), es ampliar el conocimiento de la investigación cognitiva del síndrome de Down, incluyendo los esfuerzos de la fundación RDS que trabaja sin ánimo de lucro RDS para financiar este tipo de investigaciones.

Trenton, NJ โ€" Raising awareness of advancements being made in Down syndrome cognitive research, First Lady Mary Pat Christie has announced that the Governorโ€™s Official Residence, Drumthwacket, will be illuminated in blue Friday evening, March 21, to support the national Light the Way initiative.
โ€œI am pleased to once again participate in the national Light the Way effort,โ€ said Mrs. Christie. โ€œVital research being done by organizations like Research Down Syndrome (RDS) are responsible for quality of life improvements for thousands of individuals with Down syndrome and their families here in New Jersey and across the country. Equally important, these advancements are empowering people with intellectual disabilities to live more independent and fulfilling lives.โ€
Light the Way is annually observed on World Down Syndrome Day, March 21, 2014. The date is meaningful because Down syndrome results from the presence of three copies of chromosome 21. Down syndrome is the most common chromosomal disorder, affecting over 400,000 in the United States. It occurs in approximately 1 in every 700 births.
Down syndrome cognitive research is a rapidly advancing area of research that holds great promise for improving memory, learning and communication for individuals of all ages with Down syndrome. The goal of the Light the Way program is to expand awareness of Down syndrome cognitive research, including the efforts of the non-profit foundation RDS to fund this research.
