UN relief efforts for S. Sudan, Sudan need better funding
United Nations efforts to provide nearly $2.3 billion in humanitarian relief to Sudan, its Darfur region and South Sudan are being curtailed by lack of donor funding, says John Ging, operations chief for the UN Office of Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs. Just 3% of the $995 million request for Sudan has been funded, and only 25% of the $1.3 billion request for South Sudan has been met. "In that gap -- between what we receive and what we need -- are people dying," Ging says. Voice of America (3/25)

UN agency: Egypt's mass death sentences violate international law

Kenyan women seek new probe of postelection sexual violence
A group of Kenyan women, including survivors of 2007-08's postelection sexual violence, is suing government officials for their failure to prosecute their cases or order investigations, writes Dr. Joan Nyanyuki, executive director of the Nairobi-based Coalition On Violence Against Women and a petitioner in the lawsuit. "What we do know is that there have never been prosecutions of mid- and senior-level offenders, including many police officers, and that for most survivors, the Kenyan justice system has been unresponsive, at best," she writes.
